User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Watch
Very comforatable on the wrist, perfect size, not too big or small. Very accurate and does not need to be re-adjusted often. Useful features and 3 alarms come in handy.

4 Stars So Far Solid, But No 78401
My c. 1997 Time Ironman Triathlon Datalink watch (78401) was recently smashed by standing between my wrist and a falling 40 lb. weight, cracking the frame and its face.

Having never, ever used the Datalink feature, I figured T5H301 model would be a suitable replacement. Overall, functionally, it appears to be; however, I much preferred the fit, display and interface of the 78401. Regarding fit, the band of the 78401 had a large range of swing, enabling it to fit the wrist both snugly and comfortably. On the T5H301, the band has little to no range at the hinge, leaving it sit off my wrist more than is desirable and making the overall feel a bit bulky. Regarding the display and interface, the T5H301 reduces the number of buttons by one, overloading the “increment/increase” onto the Start/Split button. This may simply require getting used to; however, it seems less intuitive. In addition, I find the arrangement of the display tougher to read at a glance with its “crammed into a circle” look than on the 78401 with its “organized into a rectangle” look. Again, this may just take some getting used to.

In short, this seems to be an able and attractive replacement for the 78401; however, if you’ve been using another Ironman for the last 12 years as I have, the new Timex models like the T5H301 may take some getting used to.

4 Stars Nice Watch, Bad Consumer
This is a nice watch. Unfortunately, I didn’t read anything about the dimensions of this watch. This borderlines on being a womans watch, in my opinion. I prefer big faces on my watch and I didn’t read the dimensions before buying. So, I was a little disappointed when this watch was delivered. Also, I prefer a watch that are not constricted in their form by the band. The band for this watch will not allow the watch to lay flat. This is a pet peeve of mine.

Getting past all of that, the functionality on this watch is of good quality and would recommend it to those that read the dimensions first.

4 Stars Too Thick
Awesome watch, love the look and function but bought the watch because it wasn’t as big as the other Timex models. Only problem is that it’s really thick that there is a gap between the bottom of the watch and my wrist. Maybe if I had a smaller wrist but it seems excessive. Sorry, other then that, I really do love the watch!

3 Stars Timex engineers forgot one thing . . .
I love Timex digital watches. They are everything a watch should be–complete in features, and easy to use. (Not like the incomprehensible and gimmick-laden Casio, which I can’t bring myself to buy.)

But when Timex designed its Shock line, its engineers forgot one thing. The case is thicker than in the conventional Ironman. I imagine that’s to provide shock-proof qualities and to double its waterproof depth rating. But the volume of the alarms and the timer signals was not boosted to compensate for the thicker case. So they are nearly inaudible.

(Anyway, that’s my theory about why they are inaudible. But the fact that they can barely be heard can’t be argued.)

As I often rely on my watch for both the alarm and timer signals, this is a real drawback. I have emailed Timex several times about it, but the company has yet to even acknowledge my emails.

Too bad I can’t buy a Shock model–I’d really like one.
