5 Stars After 6 year still love the watch
I’m really hard on watches and the Times USB Datalink watch has never failed me. I’ve owned one since it first came out six or eight years ago. Yes, the rubber wristbands only last a couple of years, and my batteries need replacement after about three years. I have all of my Outlook contacts (about 550) with telephone numbers (chose not to include email or snail mail address so I can get a lot of contacts into it). I stopped carry my PDA shortly after I bought it. I’ve replace it once after my first one started looking really scruffy (like I said I’m really hard on watches), but the first one is still running just fine. Large display is good enough even for my 70 year old eyes!!! I never leave home without it! Sorry to see it not still advertised on the Timex website and wrist straps are hard to find.
5 Stars The only watch that has these features
This is the third Ironman Databank watch I have owned. Simply put; it is the only watch I have found that has all the programmable features I need and want. Countdown timers, alarms, appointments, plus other apps make this a one-of-a-kind-watch. I wish Timex would make it in an all stainless model. Of course, I would love to have an Omega Speedmaster or Rolex GMT, but other than tell the time, date and where one has a chrono, they fall short in features. If I could afford it, I would have both, but for the price, there is no other watch in the world that has these features. I don’t know what I will do if they stop making this remarkable watch.
5 Stars Ironman Data Watch
This is my 4th Data watch. Failures were band breakage. This replacement is a better design. I have change batteries and had good luck with the over all performance. Past watches took a beat but kept running. With this change in band design I expect this to last much longer.
5 Stars No Other Watch Made That’s As Useful
I’ve worn Data Links exclusively since 1995 when they were introduced. There is no other watch made that has as many countdown timers and alarms as this watch, as well as many other features, no less being fully customizable. I rely on these features daily. Hope Timex never discontinues it.
If you have the rare occasion to need Timex USA Customer Service (Arkansas) for operating advice or repair - use them for battery replacement - you will find a level of service most think no longer exists.
Have no affiliation with Timex. Its simply earned my loyalty due to its product and service.
3 Stars Had for 6 years, extended warranty replaced 3 times
The functionality and fit of this watch are great. It offers many features that made this a very useful watch - it is easy to keep track of appointments, important phone numbers, special occasions, etc. These are functions I would normally maintain on a smartphone, but I work in an environment where smartphones, cellphones, PDAs and the like are not allowed, so this watch provided easy access to that information without compromising company security.
However, over a six year period I had to send the watch back to Timex 3 times for repair/replacement. I am glad I purchased the extended warranty when I purchased this watch, because it never would have lasted six years otherwise. The screws came out of the face more than once, the wheel on the side came off, the band broke, the connection points for the USB datalink corroded heavily, buttons ceased to function… this watch faced a number of different problems, but the only one that occurred more than once involved the screws in the face falling out. Each time I sent it in they replaced it with a brand new unit, so I ‘used up’ this watch four times in a six year period.
I’m not that hard on watches - I have a Citizen watch that I have worn for more than 15 years, and it still holds up great. But this watch wore out very quickly. I only had to change the battery once in six years because the watch would often require a warranty repair before the battery died.
It just broke again on me, and my extended warranty has expired, so it is time to retire this watch. I’ll replace it with something I hope is more durable. It is a good watch if function is your only criteria for evaluation, but who wants to have their watch repaired or replaced every 15 months?
